For us to be able to develop a successful project, we're not going to be playing alone or developing that project alone, there has to be partners with us. One of the main partners, especially with Jordan, is the government, and its partnership comes from laying down the rules, the legal frameworks, let's say, the infrastructure, but also the financing partners that need to be able to support us and help us to see that the support that the green hydrogen can be supported with off-takers in Europe.

(...) These jobs : Where would they come from, and do we start from scratch? Do we train someone right from the beginning for five years as a hydrogen engineer or a hydrogen technician? The point of view that I put across is that we can up-skill existing graduates and existing graduates who are unfortunately unemployed could benefit from up-skilling themselves, adding new skills related to hydrogen in a very short period of time, in a six-month period of time, concentrating on specific skills that are needed for the hydrogen economy.This has two advantages. The first advantage is that it allows us to be very dynamic and responsive to the market, bringing in skills very quickly onto the market. And the other advantage is that it starts addressing the unemployment problems that we suffer from in Jordan, as in many other countries in the region.

(...) a crucial need for support emerges, especially in the areas of training and pilot installation. While theoretical training is quickly manageable, the challenge lies in training human capital specialized in equipment use. This requires the implementation of small-scale green hydrogen electrolyzers, ranging from a few kilowatts to a few tens of kilowatts. These devices need to be integrated into research laboratories and training centers to qualify human capital consisting of technicians and engineers specialized in these technologies. The project also includes the creation of a megawatt-scale platform in collaboration with our UM6P partners. This platform aims to demonstrate, test, validate, and train human capital in anticipation of the large-scale deployment of this industry.

With established laws and infrastructure in place, the current large-scale PV systems can potentially be repurposed for hydrogen production and storage techniques, aligning with the approach of other countries utilizing hydrogen resources for local purposes, not for large-scale exportation.We are looking to use the hydrogen locally and to have some pilot projects. Addressing the need to determine requirements for hydrogen and the necessary infrastructure, progress is essential to move forward in utilizing this resource.

« Since the signing of the EU-Green Partnership with Morocco, we have seen an increase in exchanges between our leaders, between the commissioners and Moroccan ministers. In the context of the energy transition and decarbonation of the economy, one of the pillars of this partnership is green hydrogen. Morocco has a great ambition to position itself as an actor or leader on this topic at the regional and even global scale. Regular dialogue is necessary because the whole dynamic around green hydrogen is shifting a lot at the global and European level.  Many things have evolved, whether at the regulatory framework level or in terms of mobilising financing. It is therefore important to keep our partners informed so that Morocco can also position itself in relation to this regulatory framework and its potential financial support. »
