Egypt Green Hydrogen Forum 2026

MED-GEM engages stakeholders on ReH2 Certification and CBAM through its Helpdesk

Cairo, 21–22 April 2026

Within this context, the MED-GEM Network, funded by the European Union, actively contributed to the dialogue by engaging with a diverse audience of stakeholders from the energy and industrial sectors, through the intervention of Ali Habib, MED-GEM Country Correspondent for Egypt, who presented the Network’s activities and its support to the development of renewable energy and low-carbon hydrogen ecosystems. The Egypt Green Hydrogen Forum 2026, held in Cairo under the Egyptian-German Green Hydrogen Partnership (GH2P), implemented by GIZ and supported by the German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK Egypt), brought together policymakers, industry leaders and experts to accelerate the transition from ambition to implementation in the hydrogen sector.

Under the theme The Circular Hydrogen Economy in Action”, the Forum explored how circular economy principles can be embedded across the hydrogen value chain to enhance efficiency, resilience and long-term sustainability. Discussions addressed key dimensions of the sector, including water sustainability and electrolyser performance, the balance between export ambitions and domestic priorities, workforce development and skills gaps, as well as financing frameworks required to unlock investment and strengthen project bankability.

The event confirmed Egypt’s strategic positioning as a regional hub for green hydrogen, supported by strong institutional cooperation between national authorities and international partners, including Germany.

Within this context, the MED-GEM Network, funded by the European Union, actively contributed to the dialogue through the intervention of Ali Habib, MED-GEM Country Correspondent for Egypt, who engaged with a diverse audience of stakeholders from the energy and industrial sectors.

His presentation highlighted MED-GEM’s role in supporting regional cooperation and advancing renewable energy and low-carbon hydrogen ecosystems. A central focus was the ReH2 Certification & CBAM Helpdesk, designed to provide practical, demand-driven support to stakeholders navigating European regulatory frameworks.

Participants were introduced to the Helpdesk’s services, including direct access to experts, a structured monthly inquiry cycle, and a growing knowledge base supporting informed decision-making. Strong interest was expressed in MED-GEM’s analytical outputs, particularly its gap assessment reports, which contribute to identifying pathways for advancing renewable energy, hydrogen value chains and local industrial development in Egypt.

The session also reflected ongoing uncertainties around certification frameworks and regulatory developments. In response to questions raised by participants, stakeholders were encouraged to engage directly with the Helpdesk to obtain up-to-date clarifications and tailored guidance.

The interaction continued beyond the session, with several participants accessing the MED-GEM FAQ library via QR code and expressing interest in submitting follow-up inquiries, demonstrating the relevance of accessible, practical tools in supporting the sector’s development.

By contributing to the Forum, MED-GEM reinforced its role as a facilitator of knowledge exchange and a bridge between policy frameworks and operational implementation, supporting partners across the Southern Neighbourhood in navigating the evolving landscape of the hydrogen economy.
