MED-GEM at the official launch of T-MED during EUSEW 2026

Brussels · European Sustainable Energy Week · Charlemagne Building

On 9 June 2026, the European Commission officially launched the Trans-Mediterranean Renewable Energy and Clean Tech Cooperation (T-MED) initiative at the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW). MED-GEM Network was represented by Tiziana de Harlez, project manager, who attended the inaugural keynote delivered by Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Šuica aand had the opportunity to meet the initiative's implementing partners on the ground.

Unveiled as a flagship initiative of the Pact for the Mediterranean and a key delivery instrument of the EU's Global Gateway, T-MED is designed as a win-win framework for both the EU and the MENA region; combining energy security, industrial competitiveness, and accelerated decarbonisation through five mutually reinforcing priorities:
T-MED aims to mobilise up to €25 billion in investments by 2035, develop 15 GW of new renewable energy capacity, and create more than 100,000 jobs in clean energy sectors across the Mediterranean region.

  1. Investment mobilisation — through the T-MED Investment Platform, connecting EU institutions, financial institutions, private investors and project promoters.
  2. Regulatory reform — faster permitting, grid connection procedures, transparent tariff systems and predictable power purchase agreement frameworks.
  3. Skills and jobs — through the T-MED Skills Agenda, linking training directly to investment projects in engineering, digital technologies and green finance.
  4. Infrastructure and energy trade — modernising grids, strengthening interconnections, and supporting hydrogen corridors and port infrastructure.
  5. Clean tech ecosystem — supporting regional value chains across solar PV, wind, electrolysers, storage and grid equipment.

MED-GEM Network is formally recognised as one of the regional platforms at the core of T-MED implementation, alongside MEDREG, Med-TSO, and PEEB-MED. This recognition reflects the network's mandate in energy market integration and underscores the strategic alignment between MED-GEM's ongoing work — on green hydrogen corridors, port infrastructure, industrial capacity building — and the priorities now embedded in T-MED.

The next milestones for T-MED include the first operational meeting of the T-MED Investment Platform in October 2026, and the first EU-Mediterranean clean tech industrial collaborations taking shape by 2027.
