T-MED: Turning Euro-Mediterranean energy cooperation into action
The European Union is stepping up its engagement with its Southern Mediterranean partners through the Trans-Mediterranean Renewable Energy and Clean-Tech Cooperation Initiative (T-MED). Anchored in the Pact for the Mediterranean, the initiative aims to turn shared energy ambitions into concrete projects, investments and partnerships across the region.
A platform to scale investment and cooperation
With over 2,300 GW of renewable energy potential and rapidly growing demand on both shores, the Mediterranean is at the heart of the global energy transition. T-MED seeks to harness this opportunity by fostering investment, strengthening industrial cooperation and accelerating the deployment of renewable energy and clean technologies.
At the core of the initiative, the upcoming T-MED Investment Platform will support the development of a robust pipeline of projects in renewable energy, electricity grids and clean-tech manufacturing. By connecting these projects with blended finance, guarantees and technical assistance, it aims to reduce risks and unlock large-scale private investment.
From regional dialogue to implementation
Beyond financing, T-MED relies on a strong ecosystem of regional and international partners, including MEDREG, MED-TSO, PEEB-MED, IRENA, OMEC, and MED-GEM Network, each contributing to different dimensions of the transition, from regulation to infrastructure, efficiency and market integration.
Within this framework, MED-GEM Network will play a key enabling role in bridging policy dialogue with implementation. Through its work on energy market integration, stakeholder engagement, skills development and clean-tech value chains, MED-GEM supports the conditions needed to translate strategy into action, contributing to a pipeline of bankable projects and stronger regional alignment.
