Blending of hydrogen in natural gas networks: challenges and opportunities
11 December 2025 – 10:30–13:00 (GMT+1, Milan)
As Europe and the Southern Mediterranean move towards cleaner and more resilient energy systems, blending renewable hydrogen into existing natural gas networks is emerging as a key transitional solution. This webinar will explore how far and how fast hydrogen can be integrated into current gas infrastructures, and under which technical, safety and regulatory conditions.
Participants will hear from regulators, network operators and experts from both shores of the Mediterranean, who will share practical insights and early experiences. The discussion will focus on:
- technical challenges linked to hydrogen blending in gas grids,
- regulatory and standardisation needs,
- infrastructure readiness and investment signals,
- options for regional coordination and harmonisation.
The MED-GEM Network, funded by the European Union, will contribute to the webinar through an intervention by Mustapha Taoumi, Key Expert 2 and Deputy Team Leader, who will present perspectives from the Southern Mediterranean on hydrogen blending in gas networks.
