Jordan’s Green Hydrogen and Power-to-X Drive: Making the Case for a Domestic Market, Policy Paper, by Bandaly El-Issa
Discussions about the development of green hydrogen and PtX in the MENA region has mainly focused on exporting these renewable fuels to other regions rather than on developing a domestic market. This is largely due to a perceived lack of potential for these fuels in the domestic market and a high demand for them in Europe. Such a line of thinking, however, would deprive MENA countries from numerous economic benefits and opportunities, especially in Jordan, a net energy-importing country that has relatively limited water resources and coastal regions. In this policy paper, the author argues for the importance of creating a Jordanian local market and provides a set of recommendations accordingly.
