MED-GEM Network Launches a 2nd Call for Projects for Renewable Hydrogen (Pre) Certification Pilot

Brussels, [March 1, 2025] – The MED-GEM Network, a project funded by the European Union, is pleased to announce the launch of its 2nd Call for Projects for the (Pre) Certification Pilot of Renewable Hydrogen, as part of its ongoing efforts to promote the green energy transition in the Southern Mediterranean Neighborhood.

This call for projects is aimed at companies, institutions, and innovators in the green hydrogen sector wishing to participate in a comprehensive certification exercise, essential for accessing the European market. The certification process will ensure compliance with European Union standards, facilitating the export of renewable hydrogen and its derivatives, such as ammonia or methanol.

Objectives of the Certification Pilot
  • Select an innovative pilot project to participate in the certification process.
  • Support participants with the guidance of a certification-specialized agency.
  • Raise awareness among Mediterranean stakeholders about the benefits of certification for the development of renewable hydrogen projects.

The selected project will receive personalized support throughout the certification process, including dedicated training on European standards and an interactive training seminar.

How to Apply?

Applications must be submitted before March 31, 2025, at 5:00 PM (Brussels time) electronically to the following email address: Tiziana.deharlez@giz.de

Eligible projects must:
  • Have a minimum capacity of 10 MW for the electrolyzer system.
  • Cover the entire hydrogen value chain: production, storage, transportation.
  • Propose innovative solutions, including for hydrogen derivatives.

This project aligns with the European Union's strategy to strengthen energy partnerships with its Mediterranean neighbors while supporting the goals of the European Green Deal, the New Pact for the Mediterranean and the Clean Industrial Deal.

About the MED-GEM Network

The MED-GEM Network is an EU-funded project aimed at accelerating the green energy transition in the Southern Mediterranean Neighborhood. By bringing together key stakeholders from industry, research, and public policy, the network promotes the development of Green Electrons and Molecules (GEM), with a special focus on renewable hydrogen.
