Toufic Rizkallah at Egypt Energy 2026: practical tools for Mediterranean hydrogen projects
On 14 October, Toufic Rizkallah, Technical Manager of the MED-GEM Network, spoke at the Technical Excellence Forum of Egypt Energy 2026, held at the Egypt International Exhibition Center in Cairo. He showed how the initiative’s work across the Southern Mediterranean connects five essentials for renewable hydrogen projects: regulation, local industry, infrastructure, finance and skills.
MED-GEM’s country consultations and assessments help identify gaps in local value creation, infrastructure and workforce capacity. Rizkallah highlighted work ranging from a renewable hydrogen pre-certification pilot in Morocco to studies on industrial uses of hydrogen and green ammonia. He also presented the MED-GEM ReH₂ Certification and CBAM Help Desk, which helps partner-country institutions address technical and regulatory questions, and the EDU-HUB, which offers curated learning resources.
The presentation closed with a next step for project developers. During European Hydrogen Week in Brussels, MED-GEM plans an EU–MENA matchmaking event for 17 projects selected from 78 applications. The projects will seek potential partners in finance, offtake, technology and engineering.
Rizkallah’s update showed how regional cooperation can provide targeted support to projects as they move towards implementation.
