Green Ammonia Pre-Certification Pilot: Overview, Insights & Lessons Learned

MED-GEM will join NAPEC 2026 in Oran, contributing to the programme of the European Union Stand. The Network will bring practical insights from its Green Ammonia Pre-Certification Pilot to Algerian and international energy stakeholders.

During this dedicated session, MED-GEM Energy Advisor Bandaly El-Issa will explore how green ammonia projects can anticipate certification requirements from their earliest development stages, reduce investment risks and strengthen their readiness for future markets.

From pilot experience to practical lessons

MED-GEM’s Green Ammonia Pre-Certification Pilot accompanied an innovative project through a specialised pre-certification process. The session will present the pilot’s approach, key findings and lessons learned, including how early assessment can help project developers:

• identify certification and compliance requirements before projects reach advanced stages;
• validate critical project assumptions and reduce regulatory uncertainty;
• align project design with future market-access conditions;
• develop approaches that can be replicated across the Southern Mediterranean.

These lessons are particularly relevant as Algeria advances its renewable-energy and green-hydrogen ambitions and strengthens its industrial and energy cooperation with Europe.
